Home-brew test facilities but methodical and solid results are gained. I’m a fan of this guy’s channel, his approach is great. So, after watching I wondered, “ is AB oil just re-badged Mobil1?” No, Warren Oil company (est. 1922) makes it. Either way, take a watch and see just how close it is to Mobil1. I’m pretty impressed. Next up should be an Amazon Basics oil change building.

The bearing test seems flawed to me. You can see oil sloshing out of the cup, which could impact the results.

While interesting to watch, I’m not sure why they didn’t just send some samples off to a lab like Blackstone. All their questions would’ve been answered for $38 and then comparing results to known virgin samples of other oils.

Extensive discussion on FP this week, sounds like the testing was pretty weak.

FTFY:
No, Warren Oil company (est. 1922) makes mixes it.
They also mix oil for Wallmart, Valvoline and several others I can’t think of.
They make Polar washer fluid and Antifreeze and distribute a wide variety of car parts and accessories. My dad worked there until he retired in 2015.

Probably wouldn’t bring in those sweet youtube views though.

Yeah I just avoid the front page anymore. I just see write-ups on what to buy on special plus the pop-ups and then when they do something about cars, I’m just not interested any longer.

You cannot talk religion on Oppo.
I have a (former) friend who is an Amsoil zealot. My ‘97 Safari van has a Goodwrench reman 4.3L V6 that now has 100,000 miles on it. After 2,500 miles of break-in on mineral oil, as recommended by the Engine Rebuilders Yada-Yada Association, I switched to Amsoil XL 5/30 and have run it ever since, though I think on the most recent drain/fill, I used Mobil 1. But I’ll probably source some Amsoil in June for the annual drain-and-fill.
Engine oil has improved tremendously since the advent of Amsoil, but then again, OEMs are demanding much more from the oil.
I would not buy AB synthetic motor oil. I’d just stick with Amsoil or Mobil 1. A 5 qt jug of the latter at Walmart is like $24.
